BA (Hons) American Studies at the University of Lincoln offers students a distinctive interdisciplinary degree drawing on expertise across the University of Lincoln in American history, literature, film, music, theatre, visual arts, foreign policy and politics.Students have the opportunity to study topics ranging from the cities of the colonial Americas and the American Revolution to the Broadway musical, Hollywood cinema, the battle for civil rights, the Vietnam War, Chinese-American relations. This course will emphasise the critical examination and interpretation of primary source materials including novels, films, newspapers, songs, oral histories, protest movements, and political documents.

Prospective students require one of the following qualifications for entry into year one of an undergraduate degree: Successful completion of a Foundation programme with a minimum of 50% plus an average of 70% or above in High School. Some programmes may require a higher foundation score e.g. 60%; Successful completion of the first year of a Chinese degree / Diploma with an average grade of 70% or above. Students who have successfully completed a HND BTEC or SQA qualification may be accepted directly into year two or three of a University of Lincoln undergraduate course on a case by case basis. Students who have successfully completed the second or third year of a Chinese Degree or Diploma may be considered for direct entry into year two or three of a University of Lincoln undergraduate course on a case by case basis. Depending on your academic background and intended course of study, it may be possible to apply for advanced entry into year 2 or 3 of a University of Lincoln undergraduate course. Students need to have an IELTS score of 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in each band score). Some courses require a higher IELTS score.
