Civil engineering comprises the conception, design, operation, and maintenance of buildings, railroads, waterways, bridges, harbours, tunnels, water supply and purification systems, sewage collection and treatment facilities, hydraulic structures, and waterpower developments. The Civil Engineering curriculum provides a diversity of applied course work and aids the student in selecting a major field of endeavour as well as a thorough background in the basic sciences and a broad understanding of the social sciences and humanities.

The Civil Engineering program provides modern and comprehensive laboratory facilities in the following fields: Strength of Materials, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Structures, Concrete, Sanitary Engineering, and Surveying. The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering has an active student section on campus.

Build a bridge to success with our civil engineering program where you’ll get a more comprehensive education than in the specialized programs offered at other schools. All programs require successful completion of the OSS Diploma and a minimum 70% average of six Grade 12 U or M courses, including ENG4U. English Language Requirements: A minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or A minimum score of 60 on the Carleton University’s Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL); or A minimum score of 60 on the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE); or A minimum overall score of 176 on the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or the Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE); or Successful completion of the University of Windsor's English Language Improvement Program (ELIP) (level III) with a minimum final grade of 75%; or A minimum score of 85 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB); or A minimum score of 220 with a T.W.E. 4.5 on the Computer-based Test, 83 with an essay score of 20 on the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (T.O.E.F.L.).
