With sport organizations wary of increasing ticket fees in a crowded recreation marketplace, effective media relations and branding strategies are becoming critical to their financial success. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' Office of Occupational Statistics and Employment projects a 12 percent increase in the need for sports marketing managers through 2018, with sports public relations specialists growing 24 percent nationally, and 22 percent in Kentucky for the same time frame. Careers in this field are diverse. Graduates typically work in the areas of marketing, merchandising careers, public relations, market research and analysis, communications, or branding. Applicants must have completed a U.S. baccalaureate degree or higher, or equivalent international degree, from an accredited institution, Baccalaureate degree cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.75 or greater on a 4.0 scale. English Language Requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 79 (internet-based) or 550 (paper-based); International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum score of 6.5; successful completion of the English Language Services Program at Level 112; or successful completion of English as a Second Language International (ESLI) at WKU.
